James "Skip" Smith

Vice President of Product Development

James "Skip" Smith leads the product management and product development organizations for Confluence.

Joining the firm in 2010, Smith is an accomplished product, technology and operations executive with more than 20 years of experience, including 13 years managing complex, global technology organizations. He has led financial services solutions businesses through many challenges, including organic revenue growth, new product development, technology upgrades, and process improvement.

As a Senior Vice President and Division Chief Operating Officer with Fiserv, Smith successfully led global technology businesses delivering payments fraud protection, item processing, enterprise content management, Internet banking and compliance solutions to the financial services market. He improved client satisfaction scores by more than 30 percent by developing strong partnerships with client executives and implementing world-class customer service practices.

Prior to joining Fiserv, he served as a senior technology and operations executive with JPMorgan Chase. He also was a partner in a startup management consulting firm delivering project execution and strategy consulting services globally. He also was an executive with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he built a national service organization that reduced operating expenses and increased service delivery capabilities.

Smith served as a board member of The Accredited Standards Committee X9 (ASC X9), whose mission is to develop and manage technical standards for the delivery of financial services products.

He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
